About Me

I am passionate about writing and music, and I am fascinated by the way both disciplines impact the way people construct or define themselves and the way they connect with others. Currently working on a PhD at the University of Toronto, I have an MA in English from the University of Victoria as well as an ARCT in Piano Performance and Level 8 in Voice from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). From early childhood I have loved to write, read, and make music, and I enjoy having a career that allows me to engage both my love of music and language. I love finding the connections between artistic media, and I am always looking for ways to bring together my areas of knowledge. I am an avid lover of learning, and I strive to be always expanding the breadth of my knowledge in the areas of my expertise.

I grew up in a musical and literary household, and since I was a teenager I have often taught music lessons as part of my employment. I have worked as a paid singer for the St. Barnabas choir in Victoria, BC, and the Schooner Cove Singers, in Parksville, BC. Between 2017 and 2019 I worked as a writer and editor for a marketing company, and I have also engaged in contract work writing bios and editing fiction writing.

My love of language and the Humanities in general has given me a curiosity about other literatures, histories, and cultures around the world. This curiosity has lead me to travel on four continents where I have had the privilege to immerse myself in different cultures and learn other languages. So far, I have learned to speak Spanish, French, and Italian, and I am currently working on learning German, Portuguese, and Finnish. I hope to make translating a larger part of the work I do in the future.

In academia, I have studied a number of "dead" languages, and I enjoy studying and making connections between literatures from multiple linguistic backgrounds, including Old English, Middle English, Anglo-Norman French, Latin, and Early Modern Spanish. I enjoy very much working with translation. I also hope to take on digitization and/or print publication projects involving medieval music manuscripts as a way of harmonizing my fields of specialization.
